A tall shrub with strong thorny stems to around 2m high, but can be kept lower by light pruning. Flowers large, loosely double, pink, opening to show some stamens, with slight scent. Raised by David Austin in 1970, and named after a character in Chaucer’s “Canterbury Tales”, whose tale was particularly coarse.
